007 First Light Will Focus More on Espionage Than Action

IO Interactive’s new James Bond game 007 First Light will feature more espionage elements, unlike the classic action-oriented games. The production team stated that the game will retain the tactical gameplay we are accustomed to from the Hitman series, but this time it will offer a broader Bond experience with brand new features such as driving, gunfights and special spy equipment.

007 First Light Will Highlight the Theme of Espionage

In an interview with GamesRadar+, IOI’s Bond series director Jonathan Lacaille explained how the game will take shape. Players will be offered a richer gameplay with mechanics such as not only stealth but also driving, combat and the use of gadgets, as in the Hitman series.

However, Lacaille emphasizes that they don’t want players to progress the game by just “shooting constantly”; instead, they aim to offer players vehicles that give them the chance to act as intelligently as Bond.

007 First Light will offer a different experience with driving mechanics that IOI has never done before. In addition, while gunfights were a failure in Hitman, they will be a fundamental part of the gameplay in this game. The development team is developing new gameplay systems to provide balance at this point.

We first saw Bond’s vehicles, the special devices he uses, and the combat scenes in the promotional video released at the last State of Play event. IOI aims to bring a new breath to the series by successfully blending both the iconic Bond style and its own signature details.
