3 Million Players Play Grounded 2

The sequel to Obsidian Games’ beloved survival game Grounded has surpassed the 3 million player mark just weeks after entering early access. Following the first game’s full release in 2022, Grounded 2 has attracted attention with its strong start and aims to further grow its player base with upcoming updates and content. Furthermore, the fact that it hasn’t yet been released on platforms like PlayStation 5 or Nintendo Switch 2 offers significant potential for this number to grow.

Grounded 2’s Record-Breaking Start

Microsoft’s vice president of game marketing, Aaron Greenberg, announced on social media that Grounded 2 has reached over 3 million players on Xbox Series X|S and PC (Steam and Xbox App) alone. The fact that it hasn’t yet been released on other platforms suggests that player numbers could grow exponentially in the coming days.

Following its release, the game broke the series record with nearly 50,000 concurrent players, according to SteamDB data. The first Grounded game’s highest concurrent player count was around 32,000 in 2021. This difference demonstrates the impact the sequel’s innovations have had on players.

The development team plans to add new vehicles, rideable bugs, and challenging boss battles in future updates. This type of content aims to increase the game’s replayability, maintaining its existing player base while also attracting new players.

Grounded 2’s rapid growth, combined with Obsidian’s long-term content plans, has the potential to eclipse the series’ previous success. The final version, shaped by feedback from the early access phase, looks set to be even richer in both gameplay and content.
