3-Year-Old Free Zombie Game Being Removed from Steam
The time to say goodbye to a free zombie game on Steam is approaching. PEP, released in 2022 and offering both single-player and multiplayer experiences, is being removed from the platform after three years. Tybug Studios, the game’s developer and publisher, announced the closure on its Steam page. The game’s servers will be shut down completely on October 1, 2025, and access will be terminated for new users.
PEP Will No Longer Be Available for Download on Steam
The studio released a statement saying, “As PEP approaches its third year on Steam, we regret to inform you that the servers will be shut down.” The game’s offline mode will remain playable after the servers are closed. However, new players will no longer be able to access the game after this date.
While PEP has been tried by many users thanks to its free nature, its reviews on Steam are less than glowing. The game’s “mixed” review score reflects an average approval rating of 69%, indicating that the game has struggled to build a large fan base.
While the developers haven’t provided a clear reason for the closure, the fact that server costs outweigh the potential benefits is a likely reason. Tybug Studios bid farewell to the community, saying, “We thank everyone who has been with us throughout this process. We look forward to seeing you on new projects.” It’s not yet clear whether Steam Deck users will be affected by this decision. The game’s support status is still listed as “unknown.”
