A New Live-Service Halo Game Is in Development
The Halo universe may be expanding again. According to reliable leakers, Halo Studios is developing a new live-service Halo game, scheduled for release in 2026. As the series’ 25th anniversary approaches, this project appears poised to both maintain its classic FPS style and draw inspiration from modern multiplayer trends.
Halo Studios Plans a New Live-Service-Style Game for 2026
The Halo franchise has been at the heart of the Xbox world since 2001. Now, it’s being suggested that the studio is moving beyond traditional single-player campaigns to a continuously updated live-service experience. Reliable Halo content creator Rebs Gaming shared a video claiming that the new game will be released in 2026 and could have a Fortnite-like structure.
According to Rebs Gaming, the project is being developed alongside Halo: Combat Evolved Remake, which leaked last year. If the rumors are true, two different Halo games could be released in 2026. The new installment is rumored to be multiplayer-focused, supported by long-term content updates. However, it has not yet been confirmed whether it will include a Battle Royale mode.
Halo Studios is preparing to announce new projects at the Halo World Championship event, to be held on October 24, 2025. Combat Evolved Remake is expected to be unveiled at the event, and it’s also been suggested that the live-service game could be a surprise announcement. The studio has been promoting this event as a “vision of the future of Halo” since last year.
Microsoft’s strategy in the post-Halo Infinite era is to expand the series through both nostalgic and innovative means. The live-service format is central to this plan. If the rumors turn out to be true, Halo could return in 2026 with two major titles that address both its classic roots and contemporary gaming dynamics.
