Ahead of the release of the PlayStation 5 Pro in November, the console has continued to draw ire from the gaming community due to its hefty $699 price tag and lack of exclusive titles. Featuring an upgraded GPU, advanced ray tracing, and AI-driven upscaling, Sony’s newest addition to the PlayStation family will enhance dozens of popular games, including heavy-hitters like Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Horizon Forbidden West, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, and Gran Turismo 7.

The 2023 hit Alan Wake 2 will see numerous improvements on the new console, with developer Remedy Entertainment revealing what players can expect next month in a new blog post. The survival horror game’s Quality and Performance modes will be upgraded on the PS5 Pro, utilizing Sony’s new PSSR AI-driven upscaling method to boost image clarity. Additionally, the PlayStation 5 Pro Quality mode will feature ray tracing, something not available on the base PS5 version of the game, at 30 FPS.

The Performance mode for Alan Wake 2 on the PS5 Pro will run at 60 FPS and will include more visual detail than the base PS5, with overall image stability, volumetric lighting, fog, and shadow accuracy being improved on the updated console. According to a developer at Remedy, the PS5 Pro upgrades in Alan Wake 2 are a “pleasant surprise,” with the studio able to improve the title’s image quality more than they initially thought possible. Trying to strike a balance between performance and image quality held the team back when the game launched for the PS5, but the ability to include ray tracing on the PS5 Pro is proving to be a game changer.

Remedy also announced a free anniversary update, which went live on October 22. This update will includes several changes, the changes listed below:

  • Quick turn ability
  • Autocomplete QTE
  • Button tapping to single tap
  • Weapon charging with taps
  • Healing items with taps
  • Lightshifter with taps
  • Player invulnerability
  • Player immortality
  • One shot kills
  • Infinite ammo
  • Infinite flashlight batteries

On top of these changes, PlayStation users can find a variety of improvements by utilizing the DualSense controller. The Alan Wake 2 anniversary update will bring gyro aiming support as well as haptic feedback for healing items and throwables, on top of the already existing haptic support for weapons. A variety of options for the DualSense will also be available through the game’s menu, such as the ability to turn the motion sensor function on and off, tweak horizontal and vertical sensitivity, set gyro space, and choose whether the pitch, yaw, and roll directions are standard or inverted.

Launching alongside the free update is The Lake House DLC for Alan Wake 2, the game’s second major DLC expansion. The Lake House will take place alongside Alan Wake 2’s main story, with players taking control of FBC agent Kiran Estevez as she investigates the Lake House, a research facility filled with new enemies to face.
