Rumors of a The Amazing Spider-Man 3 have long circulated. However, Andrew Garfield put an end to these rumors in a new interview. While stating that a return to the series is now virtually impossible, the actor expressed his satisfaction that fans are still keeping the idea alive.
Are Hopes for The Amazing Spider-Man 3 Really Over?
In an interview with GQ magazine, Andrew Garfield flatly denied the years-long rumors of a The Amazing Spider-Man 3. Garfield flatly denied the claims, saying, “It’s not happening, and I don’t think it will. But it’s sweet that you want it to happen.” The actor’s statement disappointed fans who have been campaigning for years using the hashtag #MakeTASM3.
The third film, canceled in 2014, was originally going to have a rather unconventional story. The drafted script included a formula that could resurrect the dead and a dark subplot involving Norman Osborn’s severed head. A separate film featuring the Sinister Six was also planned. However, most of these projects were canceled before the Marvel partnership, bringing Garfield’s Spider-Man run to a premature end.
Garfield pulled off a major surprise by reprising his role as Peter Parker in 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home. The actor repeatedly denied he would reprise the role at the time, which has led to fans being skeptical of his current statements. Garfield stated, “I feel like this story is never over. Maybe it’s still going on in another universe,” hinting at his continued love for the character.
From the Marvel side, rumors continue that Garfield will reappear in the multiverse. According to some sources, the actor may return, albeit briefly, in Avengers: Secret Wars or Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Garfield, maintaining his anonymity in the face of these questions, said, “Anything I say will be misunderstood. It’s best not to comment.”
Although The Amazing Spider-Man 3 appears to be shelved, Andrew Garfield’s energy and candid explanations, which have become synonymous with the character, haven’t completely dampened Spider-Man fans’ hopes. It seems Peter #3 is still out there, spinning his web.
