Assassin’s Creed Legend Resigns

Assassin’s Creed, one of the most established brands in the gaming world, has been in the news with a significant departure. Marc-Alexis Côté, the series’ executive producer and director, has resigned from his position at Ubisoft. This decision, which comes after the company established a new studio with Tencent, has caused consternation among employees and fans alike.

The departure, announced in an internal Ubisoft email, has resonated widely across the gaming world. Vantage Studios co-CEOs Christophe Derennes and Charlie Guillemot revealed that Côté was offered a leadership role at the new company, but declined. According to the duo, Côté’s own “priorities and expectations” were the deciding factors in this decision.

Ubisoft’s official statement read, “Following the restructuring process announced in March 2025, Marc-Alexis Côté has decided to pursue a different path. His contributions have propelled the Assassin’s Creed brand to its current state.” The company thanked the experienced executive for his “creativity, leadership, and dedication,” bidding farewell.

Côté joined Ubisoft in 2005 as a software engineer and over time became one of the franchise’s most important figures. The developer, who produced titles such as Assassin’s Creed III, Syndicate, and Odyssey, was responsible for the brand’s overall strategy starting in 2022.

This departure follows Ubisoft’s establishment of a new structure, Vantage Studios, in partnership with Tencent. Through this studio, the company aims to create a global production pipeline for future AAA projects. However, Côté’s resignation suggests that there may be some disagreements within the new structure.

Ubisoft plans to take the series in new directions with projects like Assassin’s Creed Mirage and the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Hexe. However, the departure of Marc-Alexis Côté, who shaped the series’ creative spirit, raises questions about the future of the brand amid this transformation.
