Batgirl Movie Cancelled, But Actors Watched It

Warner Bros. Discovery’s cancellation of the completed Batgirl film sent shockwaves through the cinema world. Directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, the film was set to usher in a new era in the DC Universe. However, the company deemed the film “unreleaseable” and shelved. However, cast member Jacob Scipio said he watched the finished film and that it was far better than they had anticipated.

Jacob Scipio: “Batgirl Was a Perfect Movie”

In an interview, Scipio said, “I had a chance to see the film, and it was truly perfect. It’s heartbreaking that the world didn’t get to see it.” Following the salvage of Coyote vs. Acme, the actor expressed hope for Batgirl. “Hollywood is a strange place; if enough people want it, anything is possible,” he said. Scipio’s words gave fans a glimmer of hope that the canceled project might one day be revived.

Batgirl Movie Cancelled, But Actors Watched It

Batgirl starred Leslie Grace as Barbara Gordon, while legendary actor Michael Keaton returned as Batman. The film was intended to be a significant bridge to the future of the DC Cinematic Universe (DCEU). However, due to a change in strategy at Warner Bros., the project was canceled, and the studio’s new plan was a completely revamped DCU under James Gunn’s leadership.

DC Studios co-chairman Peter Safran stated that Batgirl was “not releasable.” However, Scipio’s praise raised questions about whether the film was truly that bad. Some sources claim that a special “farewell screening” was held for the team, after which the content was completely deleted.

While a revival of this version now seems unlikely, the Batgirl project has gone down in DC history as a moment of lost opportunity. The words of Scipio and his teammates, however, do not completely rule out the possibility of this “unseen” film ever seeing the light of day.
