Battlefield 6 Team Name Crisis: Former Director Speaks Out
While Battlefield 6 generated significant buzz upon its release, the behind-the-scenes story paints a completely different picture. Many members of the Ridgeline Games team involved in the game’s early development were not included in the final release’s credits. Former director Marcus Lehto reacted to the situation, stating that his name and the work of dozens of developers were overlooked.
Missing Names in Battlefield 6 Credits Draws Controversy
Marcus Lehto served as studio general manager and vice president of the Battlefield series from 2021 to 2024. Ridgeline Games, founded in 2022, was formed to lay the foundations for Battlefield 6. However, after Lehto’s departure in 2024, the studio was shut down and the project was handed over to another team.
In a post on LinkedIn on October 20th, Lehto stated, “Many members of the Ridgeline Games team were not properly credited in the Battlefield 6 credits.” He also shared a redacted credit list that included missing names. The images revealed that many developers were only credited in the “Special Thanks” section, while others were omitted entirely.
“These talented developers built the foundation of the game for one to two and a half years. However, many were removed from the credits or only credited in the thanks section when the studio closed,” Lehto said, emphasizing the need to show respect to their teammates. He believed that game development was a collective, not individual, endeavor, and everyone deserved to be credited.
Lehto’s post quickly resonated with the community. Players and industry insiders expressed their support for the former director, stating that such situations are common in the gaming industry. Many said this was a striking example of the invisibility of labor, not just for Battlefield 6 but for the gaming industry in general.
