Black Myth: Wukong Is Getting a Massive Update

Black Myth: Wukong, one of the most notable games of last year, has been met with a surprisingly large update. The Game Science team announced that the new patch for PS5 users will be released today. However, the update is notable for its 93.3 GB size, which takes up almost as much space as the game itself.

Black Myth: Wukong Update Requires 93 GB of Storage

Game Science didn’t share any details about the update‘s contents, but stated that its goal is performance improvements and bug fixes. What’s striking is that such a large file size is needed for a patch that doesn’t add any new content. This means many players will have to clear up space on their consoles.

Users playing the PS5 version may have difficulty updating the game on the day the patch is released. This is because if the console doesn’t have enough free space, the system can’t download the update. Fortunately, Game Science reassured players by saying, “Even if you can’t install the patch, the game will continue to work.” However, those who still want to access the latest version are advised to completely delete the game and reinstall it with the latest version.

The developer studio also warned PC players. It noted that some mods may be incompatible with the new patch, and it is recommended to uninstall them before the update. Otherwise, they warned, “crashes, launch errors, or performance issues may occur.” Platform-specific patch notes for the update will be released later.

Black Myth: Wukong’s significant update indicates that the game’s technical infrastructure has been significantly optimized. The game, which stands out as a contender for 2024’s “Game of the Year,” continues to deliver impressive visual quality. This patch is expected to make a noticeable difference, particularly in areas such as frame rate, loading times, and visual stability.

Meanwhile, Game Science unveiled the new installment in the series, Black Myth: Zhong Kui, at the recent Gamescom event. While there’s no release date yet, the studio’s ability to unveil a sequel so quickly demonstrates the strong momentum both the technical team and the brand have built.
