Borderlands 4 Players Get a Relief Feature
The Borderlands series’ sense of humor can sometimes go over the top for most players. The Claptrap character in particular tested players’ patience with his loud voice and endless jokes. However, Gearbox seems to have given players a say by making an unexpected change to this character in Borderlands 4. There is now a special settings menu for Claptrap’s volume.
Claptrap Volume Adjustment Arrived for Borderlands 4
The “Claptrap Volume” option added to the sound settings menu of Borderlands 4 was first noticed in a screenshot shared by Twitch streamer Chadly. This special slider, positioned separately from other sound settings in the menu, directly controls Claptrap’s volume. Considering the complaints that “Claptrap is too loud” were frequently voiced in previous games of the series, this step seems to be both a fun and functional solution.
While many players are welcoming this new setting, some think it could just be a joke. Comments on social media include, “Finally! I think most people are tired of him by now,” while humorous concerns like, “Plot twist: The volume doesn’t even change.” Considering Claptrap’s nature of mocking the player, this possibility doesn’t seem so far-fetched.
Borderlands 4’s narrative director Sam Winkler also commented on this feature, stating that he wrote some lines specifically for this setting, including a rather niche accent reference. Although he didn’t mention any names, players think this reference is a reference to Gunther from the Deus Ex game. This shows that Gearbox is continuing its sense of humor, but is taking a more subtle path.
All these details show that humor is still a big part of Borderlands 4, but the developers are also listening more to player feedback. Small but effective tweaks, especially the audio, can make a big difference to the player experience. Can Claptrap’s voice be lowered, or is this another joke? We will all find out together when the game comes out.
