Cyberpunk 2 May Be Online
The long-anticipated Cyberpunk 2 has resurfaced with a new rumor. A striking job posting from CD Projekt Red suggests the game may not be limited to a single-player experience. The possibility of an online mode is seen as an exciting prospect for the future of the series.
Possibility of an Online Mode in Cyberpunk 2
An ad posted on CD Projekt Red’s official website revealed that it is looking for a network engineer to develop “seamless and robust online systems.” The ad specifically mentions low-latency and high-performance experiences, suggesting an online layer will be added to the game. This further strengthens the possibility that Cyberpunk 2 could take the series in a new direction.
The planned online mode for the first game, Cyberpunk 2077, was canceled. The initially promised multiplayer experience was shelved due to post-launch technical issues. However, this preparation for the second game demonstrates that the studio has learned from past mistakes and wants to build a stronger online experience.
The nature of the online features in Cyberpunk 2 remains unclear. This system could be integrated into the single-player campaign, allowing players to influence each other’s worlds. Alternatively, a completely separate mode could allow players to create new characters and explore different regions.
A release date for the game has not yet been announced. CD Projekt Red’s priority is The Witcher 4, meaning Cyberpunk 2 will be released sometime after 2026 at the earliest. However, one thing is certain: the possibility of an online mode is already catching players’ imaginations.
