Halo MMO Titan Allegation Sparks Controversy
Former Ensemble Studios employee Sandy Petersen claims that Halo MMO Titan was canceled for financial reasons. According to Petersen, the project was planned as a massive online experience set thousands of years ago in the Halo universe. However, then-Xbox executive Don Mattrick refused to commit to the three-year development period because it didn’t fit the investment schedule and shut down the studio. This revelation sparked considerable controversy within the Halo community.
Petersen states that Titan makes the Forerunner and Covenant races playable and opens up the galaxy’s ancient history for exploration. He also states that extensive work has been done on missions, worlds, and story. According to the developer, the Flood also played a significant role in the project. With all this already completed, the game’s cancellation was a major disappointment for the creative team.
Microsoft reportedly projected Titan could generate $1.1 billion in total revenue. Therefore, the Halo MMO’s cancellation is considered a potentially historic loss. Some gamers believe this project could have achieved a unique position for Halo in the MMO scene. Others argue that such massive projects are risky and suggest the decision may have been strategic.
