Dual Katana Fighting Revealed for the First Time in Ghost of Yotei

PlayStation fans are eagerly anticipating Ghost of Yotei, and new gameplay details are continuing to surface as its release date approaches. The game, which will be released on October 2nd, has previously featured combat using firearms and odachi. Now, dual katana mechanics have been revealed for the first time, bringing a whole new dynamic to the game’s combat system.

Dual Katana Fighting Adds Speed to Ghost of Yotei

The new trailer shows protagonist Atsu wielding dual katanas, taking down enemies with quick and fluid attacks. This style, which offers much quicker movements than single-sword combat, allows players a more aggressive playstyle. However, the increased speed does result in slightly more limited control. Nevertheless, it appears to be extremely effective for eliminating enemies one by one.

Another striking element in the trailer is the active participation of Atsu’s wolf companion in combat. This companion, which can be controlled via commands, provides a significant advantage when dealing with large groups of enemies. This allows players to both deliver rapid blows with dual katana attacks and maintain area control with the companion’s help.

The gameplay trailer also showcases the ability to instantly switch weapons during combat. Players can choose their preferred style, from Odachi’s powerful but slow attacks to the rapid combos of dual katanas, or even firearms. This feature increases the game’s tactical diversity and makes every encounter a unique experience.

Sucker Punch set a high bar with 2020’s Ghost of Tsushima. Ghost of Yotei aims to go even further in terms of visuals, atmosphere, and combat. The addition of dual katana gameplay further fuels excitement for the game’s release. With the release just weeks away, fans of the series are eager to join Atsu’s journey.
