DualSense V3 Blows Away Expectations for Removable Battery
The new DualSense V3 controller, bundled with the PlayStation 5 Pro, has disappointed gamers. Contrary to months of rumors, the new model doesn’t feature a removable battery. It appears Sony has once again ignored this most requested change, despite making minor design improvements.
The DualSense V3 Offers Less Innovation Than Meets the Eye
A review video by YouTuber Austin Evans clearly demonstrates that the DualSense V3 doesn’t meet expectations. When Evans removed the controller from the PlayStation 5 Pro packaging and examined it, he noticed only additional plastic supports on the inside. He also noted that a microphone had been removed, but this shouldn’t affect the user experience.
The DualSense V3’s battery has been completely replaced, but this change doesn’t make a difference to the user. While technically replaceable, the new battery doesn’t have a removable battery system. This means users have to plug the entire controller back in when the battery wears out. This has been a disappointment for gamers who have long been demanding an “easy-to-swap” battery.
This revelation also reveals that the rumors circulating in recent months were a misunderstanding. Many interpreted the phrase “new battery” as “removable battery.” However, Sony’s design choices remain firmly rooted in a closed system, suggesting the brand is continuing its policy of holistic replacement rather than extending the controller’s lifespan.
Evans’ video, on the other hand, confirms that the PS5 Pro also features some minor changes. The new model is 87 grams lighter, has quieter fans, and has improved energy efficiency. However, there aren’t any significant performance improvements. Even if the DualSense V3 and PS5 Pro are bundled together, most gamers will only notice these differences upon closer inspection.
