Emiru Breaks Her Silence Following TwitchCon Scandal
TwitchCon 2025 was held in San Diego, but this time, the event was marked by a scandal rather than entertainment. Famous streamer Emiru was physically assaulted by a male visitor during a fan meeting. Following the incident, the platform’s security vulnerabilities were debated, and Emiru released a lengthy statement explaining what happened. The young streamer described Twitch’s response as “unacceptable.”
Emiru: “Twitch’s Statement Is a Blatant Lie”
Videos shared on Twitter and Reddit following the incident show the attacker pushing through the crowd, approaching Emiru, and forcibly grabbing her. Emiru explained in her post that the attacker had breached multiple security barriers and that TwitchCon personnel failed to intervene. “The person reacting in the video was my own security guard, not TwitchCon security,” the streamer said, criticizing the organization’s failure to take responsibility.
The most striking aspect of Emiru’s statement was its contradiction with Twitch’s official announcement. The company had claimed that the attacker was “captured and detained immediately.” However, Emiru described this statement as a “blatant lie,” stating: “The attacker walked away from my fan meeting with no problem. Hours later, I learned he had been apprehended, and that was entirely thanks to my manager’s insistence.”
The famous streamer stated that only his team supported him after the incident. “No one from TwitchCon staff came to ask questions about what happened. I even heard some security guards joking around after the incident,” he said, highlighting the negligence. This revived Twitch’s long-standing criticism of its negligence in event security.
The community reacted strongly to Twitch after the incident. Many users argued that the event was held without adequate precautions, asking, “If even Emiru isn’t safe, who can be?” Some content creators also announced that they will not attend future TwitchCon events due to similar security concerns.
Emiru concluded her statement by saying, “This is definitely my last TwitchCon,” implying that she was severing ties with the platform. The streamer, who has attended the event for ten years, emphasized the situation by saying, “I brought staff to ensure my own security, but what about those who don’t have that opportunity?”
Twitch hasn’t released a new statement regarding the incident. However, the incident continues to call into question the platform’s commitment to community safety. Emiru’s experience is a stark reminder of the inadequacy of security protocols at digital events.
