Ex Rockstar Developer Explained Why GTA6 PC Version Might be Late
A former developer at Rockstar has explained why GTA6 PC version might be late.
GTA6 PC Version Controversies
The long expected announcement made December, GTA6 is the most expected game of all time and recently it’s been revealed that the game will make it’s launch at Fall 2025. Meanwhile, Rockstar Games hasn’t give any details about PC release. Which brings the question that, will the game skip PC at launch? We might get more details once second trailer drops but it looks like currently this question has the answer as “yes”.
On the other hand, former developer at Rockstar Games made some explanation about this situation. York, who was an animator at Rockstar New England for six years and helped with the development of critically and commercially successful Red Dead Redemption 2 and GTA 5 before leaving in 2017, starts off by pointing out that the PlayStation is, historically for Rockstar, the console it focuses on for its games. He goes on to state, “The reason why a PC port comes later and not the first thing that comes out, is because they want to prioritize what sells.” We all know that PC sales can’t be underestimated but it looks like York wants to indicate that Rockstar Games does not believe PC sales will be anywhere near PlayStation or Xbox figures. Which we believe it’s not true since PC gaming is not in the same place as before, especially when Red Dead Redemption 2 or GTA5 released.
With GTA 5, York commented that Rockstar made the PS3 a priority, and worked on the Xbox 360 port at the same time. It was only afterwards that the company focused on the PC version. Grand Theft Auto 5 was even released on the PS4 before it made it to PC about six months later.
York also shares more information about building PC version by saying “This is very important for everybody to remember: one of the main reasons why a PC port will take so long is because it’s different architecture and different components.”
GTA6 is the most anticipated games of all time, meaning that most players want to enjoy the game at launch but if you don’t have console, then it looks like PC players will have to wait at least 6 months for GTA6 PC version. If Rockstar Games doesn’t change opinion, of course.
