Football Manager 25 Officially Cancelled
Sega and Sports Interactive have announced that they have cancelled Football Manager 25 on all platforms. This is the first time that the series, which started in 2004, has skipped a full year. The company announced that they made the decision due to problems experienced during the development process. The team apologized to the fans and shared the reasons behind the cancellation in detail.
Challenges in the Development Process of Football Manager 25
Sports Interactive stated that the transition to the Unity game engine created great difficulties during the development process of the game. In particular, problems with the player experience and interface prevented the desired quality from being achieved. User tests and detailed evaluations indicated that it would not be right to release the game in its current form.
The company emphasized that they made this decision in order not to disappoint gamers. The production team, who stated that “We had to make this decision instead of releasing FM25 in its current form and fixing it later,” stated that they will not compromise on quality standards.
With the cancellation of FM25, it was announced that there will be no updates to FM24 for the 2024/25 season. The company wants to focus its existing resources entirely on the new game. It was also stated that negotiations are ongoing to extend the license periods of FM24’s subscription services such as Game Pass. Sports Interactive stated that they are focusing all their attention on Football Manager 26 and want to stick to the classic release schedule in November. It was stated that FM26 will realize the technical and visual revolution that the series aims for.
The production team thanked the players who pre-ordered the game and said, “We are grateful for the trust and support you have given us. We apologize for disappointing you.” It was announced that those who pre-ordered the canceled FM25 will be given a full refund. With major changes planned for the future of the Football Manager series, fans are now turning their eyes to FM26. The team have raised expectations by saying: “We are working to start a new era.”
