The Game Boy Color, one of the legendary portable game consoles, is now appearing in a completely new look. This special edition, redesigned with a fully transparent motherboard, is sure to excite both nostalgia enthusiasts and collectors alike. Its unique design draws attention, and it features intriguing details for gamers.

Game Boy Color with a Transparent Motherboard Project

This special design was created by self-taught designer Natalie Tenerd. Tenerd rebuilt the original Game Boy Color circuitry from scratch, completely removing the grounding layer to create a transparent motherboard. While such a solution might be risky in modern devices, the Game Boy Color’s simple design allowed for seamless operation.

A special low-melting-point material, similar to acrylic, was used in the console’s production. This required high precision in the soldering process. The meticulous placement of each component was one of the most critical stages of the project. The motherboard was so delicate that even the wrong touch could damage it.

In the resulting model, everything except the chips, copper traces, display, and additional circuitry was made completely transparent. Even the cartridge slot was made of translucent material, ensuring design integrity. This appearance, combined with the transparent chassis, created a unique device with high collectible value.

However, because the project was developed entirely as a personal work of art, it was not offered for sale. Furthermore, the material used was too delicate and flexible to be suitable for everyday use, making it unsuitable for long-term gaming. Nevertheless, this design became a remarkable example that inspired the transparent technology trend.
