David Leitch to Direct the Gears of War Movie

Netflix’s Gears of War adaptation is being entrusted to David Leitch, a veteran of the action world. Leitch, known for films such as Bullet Train, Deadpool 2 and Hobbs & Shaw, will also contribute to the project as a producer with his wife Kelly McCormick. The production will be developed by Leitch’s 87North production company and will be carried out in collaboration with The Coalition studio, the developer of the video game.

The script for the film belongs to Jon Spaihts, the writer of the Dune films. Spaihts will bring his success in adapting Frank Herbert’s science fiction classics to the big screen, this time to the Gears of War universe. The story takes place on a planet where Locust creatures from the underground threaten humanity. Delta Team, led by the main character Marcus Fenix, is forced to fight as humanity’s last hope.

Netflix does not limit the potential of the Gears of War brand to just the feature film. The company had previously announced that it was preparing an animated series for adults after the film. If the project is successful, it is planned to expand this universe with more media content. This shows that Gears of War will become a long-term brand for Netflix.

Leitch is currently working on a new heist film called How to Rob a Bank for Amazon MGM. After this production, starring Nicholas Hoult and Anna Sawai, the director is expected to switch full-time to the Gears of War project. It can be said that exciting developments are coming for Gears of War fans.
