Ghost of Yotei Arrives with New Mechanics
A comprehensive gameplay video for Ghost of Yotei was released at PlayStation’s State of Play event. The video showcased numerous innovations, from new systems that allow players to explore the character’s past to detailed combat mechanics. The game’s open world and customization options were also noteworthy.
Ghost of Yotei Expands with New Mechanics
The first innovation highlighted at the event was the ability to revisit Atsu’s past with a single click. This feature allows players to more deeply understand the character’s family pain and motivation for revenge. The game also encourages exploration and unlocks new abilities through Altars of Reflection. Exploration is built around identifying places of interest with a Spyglass and slowly and carefully experiencing the world.
Atsu can rest by setting up camp, play the shamisen, or prepare meals. While resting, players can meet different characters and acquire various upgrades. Furthermore, the diary menu from Ghost of Tsushima has been replaced with a new system that simplifies the management of mentors, allies, and merchants.
The game’s combat system is significantly expanded. Atsu can wield a variety of weapons, including katana, saregama, Odachi, spear, and dual swords. Each weapon has different effects on enemies and can be customized. Atsu’s solo movement allows him to employ a wide variety of tactics in combat. Players can disarm enemies and lose their weapons when attacked.
For ranged attacks, options include bows, pistols, kunai, and gunpowder. The most effective equipment varies depending on the weapons used by the enemies. Therefore, quick decision-making is crucial during combat.
Armor and equipment also highlight the game’s customizable features. Players can choose to focus on stealth, ranged, or melee combat to suit their playstyle. Weapon visuals can also be customized.
The game comes with four different presentation options, including a photo mode: Standard, Subtitled, Samurai Cinema, and Kurosawa mode. Samurai Cinema includes Japanese voice-over and English subtitles.
Two special game modes have also been announced. Miike mode offers a closer camera angle and detailed blood and mud effects, while Watanabe mode provides a relaxed atmosphere accompanied by lo-fi music during exploration and combat. Ghost of Yotei aims to offer players a unique experience, both visually and aurally.
