Gina Carano Case Over
The federal lawsuit between Gina Carano, known for her role as Cara Dune in The Mandalorian, and Lucasfilm has ended with a settlement between the parties. Carano, who claimed she was dismissed from the series in 2021 due to her social media posts, alleged unfair dismissal in her lawsuit. While the details of the agreement were not disclosed, it was stated that the parties may collaborate again in the future.
Gina Carano and Lucasfilm Reach a Settlement
Lucasfilm stated in a statement that Carano was treated with respect by her directors, co-stars, and other members of the team throughout her tenure. The statement said, “Now that this case has been resolved, we look forward to exploring opportunities to work together in the near future.” The parties agreed to dismiss the lawsuit with prejudice, preventing its re-opening.
In a personal statement, Carano thanked her fans for their support, saying, “I’m excited to move on to a new chapter. I want to stay in the arts and hope you join me on this journey.” The actress also thanked Elon Musk, who helped cover the costs of the lawsuit, for his “unconditional support.”
In the lawsuit filed in 2023, Carano alleged that she was targeted by online pressure campaigns for expressing conservative views, and that Lucasfilm bowed to this pressure and fired her. Carano had previously faced backlash for mocking the need to wear masks during the pandemic and supporting allegations of voter fraud in the 2020 US presidential election.
The Mandalorian, which premiered in 2019 and ran for three seasons, has become one of the most popular Star Wars franchises on Disney+. Lucasfilm plans to bring the series to the big screen next summer with “The Mandalorian and Grogu,” starring Pedro Pascal and Sigourney Weaver.
