Helldivers 2 Team Rolls Up Sleeves for New Game

After achieving great success with Helldivers 2, Arrowhead Game Studios is now preparing to return with a new game. The company announced that it is seeking a senior systems designer for a “new co-op action game.” This as-yet-unannounced project will be a brand new IP that the studio will develop independently.

A job posting published on Arrowhead’s official website states that it is seeking a “Senior Systems Designer” to lay the groundwork for the new project. The posting states that this person will play a key role in shaping gameplay loops, progression systems, and combat mechanics. This confirms that the studio is working on a cooperative action game in the vein of Helldivers 2.

Among the details, the new game will be developed using Unreal Engine and set in a completely new universe. This suggests that Arrowhead isn’t just resting on its laurels but also intends to expand its gaming identity. Players are already discussing the kind of world the studio will create this time around.

Arrowhead CEO Shams Jorjani stated in the spring that the new game wouldn’t be jointly developed with Sony but would be developed entirely with the studio’s own funding. This suggests the team will have a more independent creative process. According to Jorjani, the goal is to create an experience that will engage the community without limiting their own vision.

Following the success of Helldivers 2, many see the studio’s move towards a new game as a natural next step. Jorjani had previously stated that Helldivers 2 would continue to be updated as an “endless game” and that they weren’t planning a direct sequel. The new project is considered a crucial step in determining Arrowhead’s future direction.
