Sony is preparing to bring the Horizon universe from the gaming world to the big screen. New documents uncovered during the company’s copyright lawsuit against Tencent confirm that the Horizon Zero Dawn film is officially in development. The documents indicate that the script is ready and Sony is actively searching for a director. This development is seen as a new step in the brand’s film adaptation strategy.

According to an affidavit from PlayStation Productions President Asad Qizilbash, the film is being developed in partnership with Columbia Pictures. Plans are for filming to begin in 2026, with a 2027 release date.

Another noteworthy point in the documents is the strategic importance of the Horizon universe to the PlayStation brand. Qizilbash emphasized that the character of Aloy holds great value not only for the series but also for PlayStation’s overall identity. This suggests that the film is planned not only as a game adaptation but also as a brand representative production.

No information has yet been released regarding the film’s cast or the plot the script will focus on. However, according to sources, the production will preserve the game world and characters while crafting an original story suited to the cinematic format. Columbia Pictures’ creative contribution is expected to significantly enhance the project’s visual quality.

Meanwhile, Sony is still facing a lawsuit against Tencent’s Light of Motiram, labeling it a “blatant rip-off” of the Horizon series. While the legal process is ongoing, the early emergence of developments regarding the Horizon film confirms that the project is in production.
