Hunter x Hunter Nen x Impact Banned
The Australian Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts’ Classification Board has refused to give a rating to the fighting game Hunter x Hunter Nen x Impact.
Reason for Ban: Implied Sexual Violence
According to the Classification Board, the game contains “a scene that is a graphic depiction of implied sexual violence, where an adult male presents himself to persons under the age of 18.” It is not yet clear whether the game’s publisher, Arc System Works, will appeal the decision or censor the game to overturn the board’s decision.
The first full-fledged Hunter x Hunter fighting game is scheduled to be released in 2025. The game will feature 3v3 Nen skill team battles. Last month, PlayStation removed Hotline Miami 2 from sale in Australia and refunded PS5 owners who purchased the game.
The Australian Classifications Board has made similar decisions in the past. In January 2015, designer Jonatan Söderström suggested that Australian fans pirate the game in protest of Hotline Miami 2’s launch ban in Australia.
Australia’s strict ratings policies are often a source of controversy in the gaming community, with some games having to make changes to their content in order to be sold in the country. The Hunter x Hunter Nen x Impact case is one of the most recent examples.
