Is Just Cause 5 Possible Over?

Just Cause, one of the most beloved series of open-world chaos, has been quiet for a long time, leaving fans wondering, “Will Just Cause 5 be released?” Rumors of cancellation had surfaced in the past, and hopes had gradually diminished. Now, a statement from the series’ creator has virtually eliminated the possibility.

The Door is Closing for Just Cause 5

Just Cause entered the gaming world with a bang in 2006. Huge maps, chain-link explosions, and a sense of free action made the series special. However, the changes that followed Just Cause 4 and the transformation of the studio structure have gradually weakened the series’ spirit. Creator Christofer Sundberg’s statements underscore this, stating that a new Just Cause game is impossible with the current staff and approach.

Sundberg’s confessions also shed light on the problems in Just Cause 4’s development. He states that management changes, publisher pressures, and difficulties in team coordination weakened the game and left its potential untapped. This process demonstrates that the series’ creative energy has waned over time. The studio is struggling to rekindle this energy today, hindering the development of a new game.

His comments regarding the Contraband project also clarify the situation. The idea, presented in 2017, has evolved over time, and only a few members of the old team remain. Sundberg emphasizes that Just Cause 5 is “near impossible” under these circumstances. He believes the studio must return to bold ideas, taking risks, and pushing boundaries. However, such momentum doesn’t seem to be building for now.

While all this may be disappointing for those who missed the series, hope isn’t entirely lost. We’ve seen some surprising returns in the gaming world, but it’s best to keep expectations low for Just Cause 5 in the short term. For now, Rico Rodriguez’s rope and bag of explosives seem to be on the shelf.
