Microsoft Working on Xbox Game Pass with Ads
Microsoft’s changes to the Xbox Game Pass tiers may be underway, according to a claim. Sources at Windows Central say that Microsoft is considering adding more tiers, including ad-based Xbox Game Pass and cloud-only options.
Xbox Game Pass with ads and cloud-only tiers in the works
First, regarding the cloud-only tier, this will reportedly be a cheaper tier where you don’t need to own an Xbox console. You will only need a platform that can access cloud-based games on Xbox Game Pass. “This will be designed for users who are not interested in buying an Xbox console, which may include rival console platform players,” the report says. It could also be for users who don’t like the upfront costs of owning any console.
Regarding the ad-based tier, the article states that Microsoft is “exploring the potential” of a tier. However, there are currently no plans to launch an ad-based tier.
It also mentions the possibility of a return of the Family and Friends plan for the service. Initially, Microsoft had tested this idea in 2022 and 2023. This test was available in various regions and charged $24.99 per month to access a single subscription for up to five people.
Earlier this month, Microsoft made major changes to the existing tiers, including canceling Xbox Game Pass Console in favor of the new and more expensive Xbox Game Pass Standard.
