Mortal Kombat 1’s New Content Canceled

According to a recent rumor, Warner Bros. Interactive and NetherRealm Studios have decided to cancel the planned Kombat Pack 3 and a new story add-on for Mortal Kombat 1. NetherRealm Studios’ latest expansion, Khaos Reigns, failed to perform as expected in sales, leading to the finalization of future content for the game.

Khaos Reigns and Kombat Pack 1 Contents Disappointing

This news comes from a trusted leak source who has previously shared accurate information, including Kombat Pack fighters. This source, confirmed on the Mortal Kombat leaks subreddit, responded to a post about the possibility of a Kombat Pack 3, stating that it won’t happen.

Another commentary confirmed that NetherRealm Studios was planning another story add-on alongside Kombat Pack 3, but those plans were shelved due to low sales. “Kombat Pack 3 and a second story add-on were planned. They were all canceled recently. No more characters will come after Kombat Pack 2. One or two cameo characters may still be released as there is some work being done on them, but I don’t know yet.”

Khaos Reigns continues the story of Mortal Kombat 1 and offers 4-5 hours of new content. The add-on adds six new fighters, Ghost Face, Noob, Sektor, Cyrax, Conan and T-1000. This follows Kombat Pack 1, which included Omni-Man, Quan-Chi, Peacemaker, Ermac, Homelander and Takeda.

Mortal Kombat games often receive post-game support through DLC fighters. For Mortal Kombat X and XI, this meant new characters and guest fighters. Mortal Kombat XI was the first game in the series to have a post-game story add-on. While Mortal Kombat 1 initially achieved strong sales figures, poor post-game support overshadowed its success. Khaos Reigns, released a few months ago, failed to make a significant impact.

Mortal Kombat 1 is available for PS5, PC, Xbox Series S|X and Nintendo Switch. The game was developed by NetherRealm Studios and published by Warner Bros. Interactive.
