MultiVersus Is Shutting Down Permanently

Warner Bros. Games has announced that the road has come to an end for its highly acclaimed fighting game MultiVersus, which was released in 2022. The game will completely end its online support on May 30, 2025. From that date on, the game will only be playable in offline mode, against AI, or in local multiplayer. In addition, the game will also be available to download from digital stores on the same day.

The Rise and Fall of MultiVersus

Warner Bros. announced that MultiVersus will close on May 30, while the final season, season 5, will begin on February 4. This final season will add two new playable characters to the game: Aquaman from the DC universe and Lola Bunny from Looney Tunes. Warner Bros. stated that these characters and other season content can only be obtained through in-game events. However, the option to purchase content by spending real money with a premium currency called Gleamium has been canceled with this announcement.

Warner Bros. said in a statement, “We would like to thank all our players who supported MultiVersus. Our entire team who worked on the game put their hearts and souls into this project. The support of our players has always been valuable to us.”

MultiVersus was a huge success when it was released as an open beta in 2022 and reached a wide player base. Its large cast, full of beloved characters such as Batman, Superman, Rick and Morty, Scooby-Doo, Tom and Jerry, increased the popularity of the game. However, despite the relaunch in 2024 and the new content added to the game, player interest decreased rapidly. Steam data and Twitch viewing rates revealed that the game could not achieve its former success.

This attempt by Warner Bros. and Player First Games in the style of Smash Bros. ended its life in the gaming world due to low demand, despite gaining popularity in a short time. Although MultiVersus will bid farewell to the online gaming world after May 30, it will continue to remain a memory for its fans with local game modes.
