New Elden Ring Game Coming to Mobile Platforms
Although no official announcement has been made yet, Tencent has already started working on a new Elden Ring game. Word on the street is that the Chinese developer is developing a mobile version of Elden Ring. This mobile adaptation will bring an immersive fantasy world full of mythical creatures co-created by George R.R. Martin and Hidetaka Miyazaki to mobile devices.
New Elden Ring Game Coming to Mobile Platforms
“Elden Ring”, which was released in 2022 and sold nearly 20 million copies in its first year, is expected to be a huge success on mobile platforms. Tencent’s adaptation of this popular game to mobile platforms is seen as a logical step considering its past experience in the industry and the vast potential of the market. The mobile version is planned to be offered with a free download model and generate revenue through in-app purchases.
The fact that Tencent has previously realized mobile adaptations of major games such as “Assassin’s Creed” and “Need for Speed” increases the expectations for this project. However, the company’s decision to shut down some projects such as “Apex Legends” due to the difficulties it experienced in some projects raises concerns that similar problems may occur in the “Elden Ring” mobile adaptation.
Pony Ma, the founder of Tencent, openly expressed the competition and difficulties the company faced in the gaming industry, “Gaming is our flagship business… But we have faced significant challenges in the past year,” showing that the company is trying to overcome these challenges with new strategies. In 2023, Ma noted that some game projects did not meet expectations and that the company is making efforts to adapt to new technologies such as artificial intelligence.
