New Mode Coming to Pillars of Eternity

Pillars of Eternity, a game that holds a special place in the hearts of RPG enthusiasts, is making a comeback after years. Obsidian is finally bringing a feature long requested by players. Now, the combat system will offer a completely different experience, and excitement is already at its peak. However, all the details about this innovation will be revealed after the subtitle.

Pillars of Eternity Gets a Turn-Based Mode

Pillars of Eternity is breaking away from the classic pause-and-play system and entering a brand new gameplay style. Obsidian announced that the turn-based mode will be tested for the first time and stated that it will be shaped entirely by player feedback. This move will strengthen the series’ tactical side, bringing a think-and-act approach similar to Dishonored or Baldur’s Gate. This will make battles more strategic, moves more calculated, and the rhythm of the universe take on a completely different atmosphere.

This mode is currently in beta and will be open to players to try out. The testing phase will begin on November 5th and will offer both newcomers and veterans the opportunity to freely modify the system. Most notably, players can switch back to the real-time system at any time, meaning no one is forced to stick to a single style. This flexibility proves that the game continues to gain traction even after all these years.

According to Obsidian’s statement, the team learned a great deal from the turn-based experience in Deadfire. This time around, the pace will be more balanced, the animations faster, and the turn system more fluid. The studio considers the beta period important for gathering feedback and perfecting the system. Testing players’ combat tactics, party formations, and skill combinations will determine the final version of the mode.

This development also provides hope for the future of the Pillars of Eternity series. While the possibility of a third game after Deadfire remains uncertain, Obsidian’s move is bringing the series back into the spotlight. The studio, under the Microsoft umbrella, is experiencing significant growth with projects like Grounded and The Outer Worlds 2. Perhaps this return to turn-based could be the first sign of a rebirth for the Eora universe.
