Overwatch 2 Recovers After Poor Reviews on Steam
Blizzard’s popular game Overwatch 2 received one of the worst user review scores in history with its negative comments when it first launched on Steam. The game received a huge backlash due to the transition to a free-to-play structure, the fact that it disabled the original Overwatch and the cancellation of promised features such as the PvE hero mode. However, the updates made in Overwatch 2’s 15th season changed the minds of some players and brought the game to a “mixed” evaluation level.
Overwatch 2 Season 15 and Changes
The significant changes made in Overwatch 2’s 15th season managed to attract the attention of players. Features such as new hero perks, fun innovations added to the game mechanics, and the return of loot boxes enriched the gameplay of the game. These updates, which especially brought back beloved elements of Overwatch 1, were received positively by players.
Of the 5,325 user reviews on Steam in the last 30 days, 43% were positive. This rate stands out as a significant improvement after the largely negative reviews Overwatch 2 received when it first came out. The game’s concurrent player count has also increased significantly compared to previous periods, approaching 60,000.
Blizzard is making strategic changes to increase the success of Overwatch 2. The release of similar games like Marvel Rivals has forced Blizzard to adopt a more innovative approach. Overwatch 2 director Aaron Keller described this competition as “exciting” and stated that Blizzard now needs to act “boldly, not cautiously.”
Although the overall reviews of Overwatch 2 on Steam are still “mostly negative,” the new season updates have brought a glimmer of hope for the game’s future. It is eagerly awaited how Blizzard will improve its relationship with the player community and what steps it will take to take the game further.
