Paypal is No Longer Supporting in Steam
PayPal is no longer supporting in Steam for many users because it will no longer support currencies other than EUR, CAD, GBP, JPY, AUD, and USD.
Steam Won’t Support Paypal
Before this recent issue, Steam was already struggling with its payment processors, who were allegedly pressuring the popular storefront to remove NSFW titles, including ones that weren’t breaking any laws. While MasterCard was the main payment processor blamed for that censorship, PayPal also faced backlash from the gaming community.
Amid Steam’s ongoing censorship controversy, the storefront has suddenly announced that PayPal will no longer process its payments in currencies other than EUR, CAD, GBP, JPY, AUD, and USD, affecting millions of players in different regions. European countries with non-Euro official currencies can still make purchases if they choose to pay in Euro. However, Steam is encouraging affected users to use its other payment methods. It also suggests trying Steam Wallet codes, which remove the need for payment processors like PayPal. Neither company has been open about the reasoning behind the changes, and the only information shared is that PayPal informed Valve that its bank would no longer process payments for Steam in certain currencies.
On Steam’s warning page about unauthorized PayPal payments, the company promises to explore adding more options for customers in the future. Despite this, a new wave of backlash seems to be building against Steam and its payment processors. However, it may not be as large as the recent criticism over the storefront’s censorship of hundreds of games. It remains to be seen whether Steam will actually replace PayPal with other localized options in affected regions or if users will have to rely on the remaining payment methods and Steam Wallet codes.
Steam is one of the most important gaming platforms, and any changes to it, whether positive or negative, directly affect millions of players. The impact of PayPal’s recent decision is a clear example. According to World Population Review, Steam has nearly five million users in Brazil alone, none of whom can now make purchases using PayPal. While several regions like Turkey and Russia were already unable to use PayPal before these restrictions, this new development adds millions more users who are limited to only a few payment methods.
