Players Are Tired of The First Descendant’s Commercials

The use of AI in the gaming world is becoming increasingly widespread, but it’s not always received positively. One of the most talked-about examples recently was the advertising videos for Nexon’s The First Descendant. Players began voicing their outrage when they realized these social media content consisted of AI-generated characters impersonating real streamers.

AI Reaction in The First Descendant Ads

Videos shared on Reddit revealed that four different commercials for The First Descendant used AI-generated characters. In these ads, it was revealed that the individuals presented to viewers as “influencers” were actually non-existent figures. In fact, one ad claimed that the AI-generated character strongly resembled a real streamer, DanieltheDemon. This sparked discussions in the community about “impersonation.”

It is alleged that the ads were technically created using AI tools similar to IMG2VID. The lack of natural facial movements, inconsistent pronunciation, and exaggerated facial expressions clearly indicate that the characters are artificially generated. Players argue that such content is used to create a fake interaction and poses a problem with transparency.

Another reason for the growing backlash is the promotion of the Nier: Automata collaboration. Although Nexon has no control over this brand, the Nier name was used in promotions featuring AI characters. While it remains unclear whether PlatinumGames has officially approved this, the situation has raised further questions among players.

The First Descendant ads have not only raised the issue of AI but also raised ethical boundaries in game marketing. Players argue that they want to connect with real people, while fake characters undermine this connection. It remains to be seen what Nexon’s response will be to these discussions.
