PlayStation 6 Will Be 8 Times Faster Than PS5

Detailed specifications for the PlayStation 6, which Sony is believed to be planning to release in 2027, have surfaced online. The information, shared by Moore’s Law Is Dead, a well-known source for reliable leaks, suggests that the new console will offer significant improvements not only in speed but also in features like ray tracing performance and backward compatibility.

Will the PlayStation 6 Features Be Like This?

According to the information shared, the PlayStation 6 will utilize a custom APU from AMD, codenamed Orion. It will feature a total of nine or ten cores, with seven to eight Zen 6c cores and two low-power Zen 6 cores. Memory support is expected to offer up to 40GB of RAM with GDDR7 support. On the graphics side, 52 to 54 RDNA 5 compute units will operate at 2.6-3.0 GHz, delivering approximately 34-40 teraflops of performance.

Ray tracing performance is claimed to be 6 to 12 times faster. This means the PlayStation 6 will deliver unprecedented levels of lighting, shadows, and visual detail. According to the leak, this power could deliver RTX 5090-level performance. Rasterization performance is also said to be 2.5 to 3 times that of the PS5.

The console’s backward compatibility will allow it to play both PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 games. Its removable disk drive feature also aligns with previous rumors. This will offer flexibility for users who prefer both digital and physical games. Furthermore, next-generation FSR4 technology will automatically optimize resolution and frame rates.

Moore’s Law Is Dead states that the PlayStation 6 will be 4 to 8 times faster overall than the PS5. In comparison, a similar leap is expected, as the PS5 is 8 times more powerful than the PS4. However, this time, thanks to AI-powered features and advanced ray tracing, the difference will be much more noticeable to players. The console is expected to launch in the fall of 2027, with production reportedly set to begin in mid-2027.
