Pokémon Legends: Z-A Gets a Surprising Change
Pokémon Legends: Z-A changes the series’ usual mechanics and disables the talent system. The talents that were previously introduced with Pokémon Ruby & Sapphire and provided special advantages to each Pokémon will not be included in this new game of the series. While the producers aim to bring a different approach to the series with this choice, this decision gathers the interest and criticism of the players.
Pokémon Legends: Z-A and the Lack of Abilities
Pokémon talents are known as one of the basic elements of the series. This mechanic, which provides Pokémon with in-battle advantages, was important both in strategic battles and in areas of use outside the game. However, Pokémon Legends: Z-A, just like Pokémon Legends: Arceus, which was released in 2022, preferred to remove this system completely. The new game will focus on the real-time battle system and the “Strong” and “Agile” attack styles instead of talents.
The fact that the abilities of the game’s starter Pokémon Chikorita, Tepig, and Totodile were not listed on the list led to this change being officially confirmed. In addition, the removal of the abilities aims to provide a faster and more dynamic structure to the game’s battle system.
The removal of Pokémon abilities paves the way for other major innovations in the game. Pokémon Legends: Z-A brings back the Mega Evolution mechanics that have not been seen in the series for a long time. Fan favorites such as Mega Gardevoir and Mega Absol return with this game. Mega Evolutions promise to add strategic depth to the game’s battle system.
In addition, a technologically updated version of Lumiose City was shown in the game’s trailer. This city is both home to wild Pokémon habitats and is presented as an important center for the story. Pokémon Legends: Z-A is expected to be released towards the end of 2025. The lack of abilities and innovations such as the real-time battle system have already been a topic of discussion among fans of the series.
