PS Plus Games Aren’t That Bad

Every month when PS Plus games are announced, the same reaction arises: “Mediocre games this month too…” This years-long debate has fueled the claim that “the old PS Plus was better” by many gamers. However, contrary to popular belief, the validity of these claims has begun to be questioned. So, are PS Plus games actually getting worse, or is it a social media complaint culture that’s taking over?

Are PS Plus Games Really Bad?

The PS Plus selection has been the subject of criticism for years. However, an independent data analysis shows that these complaints are untrue. A PlayStation enthusiast compared PS Plus games month-by-month by analyzing their Metacritic averages. The results were surprising: recent PS Plus games have higher average scores than in previous years.

This analysis refutes the claim, frequently voiced by gamers on social media, that “worse games are coming every month.” For example, the month Lies of P was filled with criticism, but even though additional low-rated games lowered the average, the metrics showed a strong performance. In other words, the problem often lies in the mismatch between expectations and the type of games being offered.

The situation becomes even clearer when looking at recent months. The last three PS Plus months of 2025 saw Metacritic averages in the 80s. Despite this figure, the increase in negative reviews actually reflects a trend of habitual criticism rather than dissatisfaction. In short, the data suggests that PS Plus is performing more consistently than you might think.

Of course, everyone has different expectations. It’s normal to be disappointed when a game you like doesn’t arrive. However, when we evaluate PS Plus’s quality performance based on data, the picture isn’t bad at all. It seems that the problem in PS Plus discussions lies in perceptions rather than the games themselves. Therefore, it’s worth approaching future announcements with a bit more open mind.
