PS5 Pro Will Offer Sharper Graphics With FSR 4 Support

Sony has announced that it will be repurposing AMD’s FSR 4 (FidelityFX Super Resolution) technology to take the PS5 Pro’s graphics performance to the next level. The company aims to deliver sharper, smoother, and more stable graphics in games by integrating the technology into the console. The new FSR 4 upscaling technology will go beyond the current PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) system and will be available in games coming in 2026.

PS5 Pro and FSR 4 Technology

The PS5 Pro already uses an AI-powered upscaling technology called PSSR. This technology can instantly upscale low-resolution images (such as 720p) to 4K while adding extra visual effects. However, AMD’s FSR 4 technology takes this performance even further with a more advanced AI network and training algorithm.

Sony PlayStation chief architect Mark Cerny stated that FSR 4 can produce sharper images than PSSR and that this new technology is the first result of the “Project Amethyst” collaboration with AMD. Cerny said that it will take time to adapt FSR 4 for PS5 Pro and that developers will continue to use PSSR technology for now.

The Project Amethyst collaboration between Sony and AMD, which started in 2023, is not limited to improving the graphics performance of the PS5 Pro. Mark Cerny stated that this technology has a wide area of use based on machine learning beyond game consoles. Sony aims to offer developers the opportunity to easily move their codes between different devices with this collaboration.

The integration of FSR 4 technology into PS5 Pro could redefine the graphics standard, especially for games that will be released in 2026. It is stated that Sony plans to increase the future competitiveness of the console by providing a special advantage to this new technology for PS5 Pro. While the PS5 Pro already offers strong graphics performance with its $700 price tag, it promises an even more impressive experience with FSR 4. This development has created great excitement among console gamers.
