PUBG PS5 Version Is Worse Than Xbox One
As PUBG transitions to the next-gen, an unexpected console difference has become a hot topic. While the PS5 version receives a performance improvement, the Xbox side retains a significant advantage. This time, the long-standing rivalry has escalated over resolution. PS5 users are already discussing the consequences of this performance difference on the game.
PUBG PS5 and Xbox Series S/X Performance Difference Clarified
PUBG: Battlegrounds is ending support for PS4 and Xbox One on November 13, 2025, and is shifting its focus entirely to the next-gen. This transition means more stable performance and modern optimizations, but it’s not a neutral transition. According to PUBG Studios, the PS5 version will run at 1440p/60 FPS, while Xbox Series X players will experience a full 4K experience at 2160p/60 FPS.
The hardware advantage of the Series X has been known for a long time, but it’s unusual to see such a significant advantage. Furthermore, the PS5 will need a PS5 Pro version to fill this gap. While this is disappointing for Sony, it’s worth noting that the standard PS5 still offers better performance than the Series S: the Series S targets a maximum of 1080p / 60 FPS.
The difference isn’t just resolution. Xbox players will be able to seamlessly transfer their existing achievements. However, on the PlayStation side, PS4 trophies cannot be transferred to the PS5. This issue was previously experienced with PS upgrades for Cyberpunk 2077 and Skyrim. The PUBG team explained that the trophy transfer was technically not feasible, citing data complexity.
There’s also a small detail that softens the argument: PlayStation Plus subscribers will receive a special Pixel Art Parachute cosmetic. Xbox Game Pass users, on the other hand, won’t receive a similar bonus. Still, the performance difference clearly has a more significant impact on the community.
With its next-gen focus, PUBG is expected to offer more visual improvements and content in the coming period. However, this resolution difference has also created a new controversy over PUBG in this year’s console competition. All eyes are now on whether the PS5 version can close this gap in future patches.
