Rockstar’s GTA 6 Silence Is Leading to Fans’ Theories
Mike York, one of the animators of GTA 5, explained the reasons behind Rockstar’s silence about its new game on his YouTube channel. According to York, this silence actually increases interest in the game and is done ‘on purpose’.
Silence Creates Curiosity and Gets Fans Talking
York states that Rockstar’s silence increases interest in the game: “The quieter they are, the better. People get impatient, they want to talk about the game and they get excited about not knowing what’s going to happen. They could easily announce the trailer date, but they don’t. They don’t do it on purpose.”
This situation leads fans to come up with “really cool theories” about new trailers and clues. York gives the example of fans recently turning to moon fortune-telling to figure out when the GTA 6 trailer will be released.
York says that during his time at Rockstar, he and his colleagues enjoyed seeing the theories that fans came up with. Not just gaming news, but also in-game puzzles like the Mt. Chiliad mystery in GTA 5. “All the developers there are very excited about it, trust me,” he says.
But York also admits that most of these mysteries are “trolling that doesn’t go anywhere,” and that the Mt. Chiliad mystery is “probably unsolvable.” Still, the fans’ efforts to figure these things out and figure out when the GTA 6 trailer will be released are what bring the community together and keep them excited for years to come.
