Royal Quest Online Climbs to the Top Again
Originally released in 2012 and shut down in 2017 due to lack of players, Royal Quest Online received a lot of attention with its relaunch on December 19th. Revived by 1C Online Games and Forward Gateway, the free-to-play MMORPG achieved a “Very Positive” user rating on Steam and topped SteamDB’s “Popular Releases” list. The relaunch saw the launch of four new servers for the Americas, Asia, and Europe, but there were no significant changes to the graphics or gameplay.
Royal Quest Online: A Classic MMO Experience
Royal Quest Online welcomes players to the fantasy world of Elenia, populated by goblins, werewolves, orcs, and dragons. Players can choose from four main classes: warrior, mage, hunter, and thief. These classes are divided into two subclasses: tank-based crusader knights or damage-focused dark knights. The game features an objective-oriented combat system similar to classic MMORPGs like World of Warcraft and Lineage II.
The game features PvP combat via fortress battles, as well as quests and dungeons. Guilds compete for fortresses that provide prestige and valuable resources. One notable new feature of the relaunch is the ability to sell rare items on the Steam marketplace, creating a new incentive for players who farm in-game.
Royal Quest Online has received over 1,000 reviews on Steam just days after the relaunch, 81% of which are positive. However, the game has been criticized for its “pay-to-win” mechanics, which allow you to level up faster or buy powerful equipment with real money. The Reddit community has also complained that the overall gameplay is bland and uninspired.
