Rules of Engagement: The Gray State Announced for PC
Grey State Studio, a division of Tencent Games, has officially announced its new project, Rules of Engagement: The Grey State. Set in a horror universe they call “Horrorverse,” the game blends tactical RPG and first-person shooter elements. The game will be released for free on Steam, the Epic Games Store, and WeGame in China in 2026.
Rules of Engagement: The Grey State Invites You to the Horror Universe
In the game, you play as an elite agent called “Strider.” Your mission is to retrieve a mysterious artifact called “The Vertex,” hidden in a dark and chaotic dimension called “The Grey State.” However, we are not alone in this world; we encounter both terrifying creatures and rival teams chasing the same prize. The rules are simple: Survive, collect the loot, and survive.
Grey State Studio’s “Horrorverse” is designed as a fusion of classic horror stories. Creatures inspired by movies, books, and internet legends are reincarnated within this universe. So, not just one nightmare, but all of them simultaneously. Each mission challenges the player with a unique atmosphere of terror.
The gameplay features both player-versus-player (PvP) and player-versus-environment (PvE). Teams must hunt creatures and gather equipment in dangerous areas within a limited timeframe. In the final phase, players face a critical choice: choose a safe exit point and protect the loot, or risk everything and fight for “The Vertex”?
Rules of Engagement features three distinct classes: Sledge, who breaks through enemy lines with a powerful shield and hammer; Pyro, who controls the area with fire and gas; and Phantom, who attacks from the shadows and swiftly eliminates his target. Deep skill trees give players the freedom to develop different strategies.
The development team emphasizes that the game is designed with a “fair-to-play” approach. All items are earned solely through gameplay; there is no option to purchase powers with real money. The studio also aims to engage the community in the development process and invites players to provide feedback on Discord. Rules of Engagement is poised to bring a new dimension to the horror genre on PC in 2026.
