Saints Row 7 is getting closer step by step

The Saints Row series has been quiet for a long time, but there’s new activity behind the scenes. A new idea for Saints Row 7 is being discussed, with a distinct beginning that departs from previous games. One of the figures who shaped the series from its inception has been called upon to return to the past for a completely different vision of Saints Row. This approach is both evoking a sense of nostalgia and rekindling expectations for the future of the franchise.

Saints Row 7 Prequel Idea Takes Shape

Chris Stockman, who directed the first Saints Row game, confirmed that he has been invited to return to the series. Stockman stated that the new project will not be Saints Row 7, but rather a prequel planned in the format of Saints Row 0. In other words, the story aims to focus on the beginning of the gang’s rise. The developer shared that he has a “very clear vision” for this project, describing the idea of returning to the series after so many years as “dreamlike.”

However, this new Saints Row venture will not be VR-based. While Stockman’s company’s VR background has raised concerns among some fans, the developer emphasized that if the project is greenlit, it will be exclusive to traditional platforms. This statement has reassured players eager to see the series in its classic form and further fueled anticipation.

On the IP rights front, the process is being handled through Plaion. While Embracer Group is undergoing a structural restructuring process, it’s believed that Plaion, which holds the Saints Row brand, has stepped up to the plate for this project. Therefore, the series is being strategically positioned for its rebirth, and significant planning is being undertaken on the management side.

Nevertheless, expectations for Saints Row 7 have already been adjusted. Considering the development timelines of today’s AAA projects, it seems unlikely the game will be released before the 2030s. Stockman also stated that his studio is preparing for a new game announcement, meaning the official Saints Row return will require a bit more patience. Despite this, this approach, which delves into the series’ roots, has instilled hope in fans after so many years.
