Saints Row Legend Wants to Return to the Series
Chris Stockman, the design director of the original Saints Row, has broken his silence after years. He says that fans still long for the old days after the series’ failed 2022 remake, and he believes the legend has been tarnished in the wrong hands. He believes a return to the past, not a fresh start, can save the series. “Players were attached to the characters, and that bond has been severed,” he says.
A Call for a Rebirth for Saints Row
Stockman stated in a statement that the 2022 remake “completely lost the spirit of Saints Row.” He believed the game was riddled with technical issues, and the story didn’t reflect the essence of the series. Therefore, instead of starting a new chapter, it would have been much more logical to delve into the origins of the series. “A prequel would have been ideal, both to revisit the old characters and to offer players a new atmosphere,” he explained.
The designer isn’t shy about sharing his ideas, even for a potential comeback. He suggests taking the series back to the vibrant era of the 1970s. Stockman, who envisions a Saints Row game adorned with big afros, wide-leg trousers, and the music of the era, says this era would add depth to the game both visually and culturally. Such a prequel could be a bridge for both new players and longtime fans.
Stockman even states that he’s ready to reassemble his old team to bring this idea to life. He made a heartfelt plea, “If Embracer hears about it, let them contact me.” He believes that with the right budget and equipment, he can revive the series. He even says he can even raise funding from external sources.
While the Saints Row franchise may currently be quiet, Stockman’s words prove that the series isn’t over yet. Perhaps this call will be the first step toward bringing this era’s legend back to the stage. It seems Saints Row still deserves a second chance.
