Released in October 2024, the remake found immediate success, modernizing the beloved PlayStation 2 game following James Sunderland’s objective to find his deceased wife in the titular town. Silent Hill 2 Remake’s Patch 1.04 corrected several bugs, including issues with James’ movements, and improved the overall technical performance. However, the remake’s Labyrinth puzzle has now become a frustrating obstacle.

As discussed on the game’s subreddit, the game-breaking bug was highlighted by the community, and players are hoping the issue is addressed quickly. Unlike Silent Hill 2 Remake’s bug room, the game now harbors a new technical bug that breaks all progress in the Labyrinth location by failing to update the cube puzzle. The rotating cube puzzle dwells in the center of the Labyrinth, and turning the green object allows new bridges to become accessible. Once the puzzle is solved, players can access a crossroads area, leading to the Rotten Area, the Desolate Area, and the Ruined Area. After completing the first stage, the bug stops the cube from moving on to the second zone, thus halting progress entirely by leaving James stuck in the first area, and players initially thought they were doing something wrong.

The Silent Hill community highlighted that this bug cannot be fixed simply by reloading the game and noted it was a detrimental issue to first time players’ experience.

This game breaking bug hopefully will be fixed in a few days. Until then, players should wait for hotfix in order to keep playing the game.

Update: This bug will be fixed with the upcoming patch, which will be released Thursday, October 24.
