Sony Expands Spider-Punk Universe
Sony is quietly expanding its animated Marvel universe. Spider-Punk, previously known for his highly acclaimed Spider-Verse films, may now embark on his own journey. Clues about the project are already generating excitement.
Spider-Punk Animated Film Coming
Sony Pictures Animation has begun work on a new animated film focusing on Spider-Punk. While it’s still in the early stages of production, the project is being helmed by familiar names. Daniel Kaluuya, known for his performance in Spider-Verse, is co-writing the film alongside Ajon Singh.
Daniel Kaluuya is known to have voiced Spider-Punk in the 2023 film Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. He will also reprise his role in the upcoming Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. Therefore, it is anticipated that Kaluuya will return in the same role in the new project. The production team will also include Amy Pascal, along with Christopher Miller and Phil Lord.
Spider-Punk stands out as one of the most distinctive versions of the Marvel Universe. His story, set on Earth-138, differs significantly from Peter Parker’s, with his anti-establishment and anarchist stance. The character first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #10 in 2015. The new film aims to bring the character to a wider audience.
Sony is expanding its Spider-Man brand not only in cinema but also through animated series and television. The Nicolas Cage-starring Spider-Noir series will also air on MGM+. All of these developments clearly demonstrate the studio’s goal of transforming Spider-Verse into a universal narrative.
