Sony Files $200 Million Lawsuit
Chris Barrett, one of the well-known names in the gaming world, is a name who has signed important projects as a former Bungie director. However, this time Barrett is on the agenda with the lawsuit he filed against Sony Interactive Entertainment rather than an achievement in the industry. Barrett claims that his dismissal was due to Sony’s attempt to avoid the millions of dollars it was supposed to pay him.
Chris Barrett’s Claims of $200 Million Lawsuit Against Sony
Barrett, known for his success in projects such as Destiny 2 and Marathon, was dismissed following Sony’s $3.6 billion acquisition of Bungie. Barrett says the dismissal, which was explained as “inappropriate behavior,” is Sony’s attempt to avoid paying him $50 million in contract fees. Barrett’s lawsuit covers not only that amount, but also $100 million in severance pay and other rights under other agreements. In total, Sony is alleged to owe Barrett more than $200 million.
The details that have emerged in this legal battle reveal the magnitude of the profits and contract terms in the industry. In addition to Barrett’s share, the question of whether similar contract rights were violated for other Bungie employees has been raised. In particular, the situation of the more than 220 employees who were laid off from Bungie last year has been brought back into question with the Barrett lawsuit.
