Sony Withdraws Concord from Sale
In a rare move in the gaming world, Sony is preparing to pull Concord from sale and refund all players. This decision comes on the heels of the game’s disastrous launch and the announcement that the game will be taken completely offline shortly.
Why is Concord Being Withdrawn?
Sony and developer Firewalk Studios have decided to stop sales of Concord on the PlayStation Store, Steam, and Epic Games Store. The move is reminiscent of Cyberpunk 2077 in 2020, and all purchases will be refunded in full to compensate for player disappointment. Sony plans to take the game completely offline starting September 6, 2024.
“While many aspects of the experience have resonated with players, we recognize that other aspects of the game and our initial launch did not live up to our intentions,” Sony said in a statement. It was therefore decided to take the game offline and explore future options. After a disastrous launch, Concord only managed to sell 25,000 copies on PS5 and Steam and soon suffered a massive drop in the sales charts.
This means that Concord only made around 1 million dollars at launch, which is pretty low for a game with a big budget. While the future of the game remains uncertain, it is possible that Concord will become a free-to-play experience or be written off as a complete failure.
