Sony’s Big Move for PS5 Pro
Remember a while ago, we wrote in a blog post about what could happen if GTA6 became a PS5 exclusive? Well, it looks like that’s happening. In a giant move, Sony has locked the marketing rights to Rockstar’s highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6 for PS5 and PS5 Pro. This strategy means that Xbox will be completely left out of GTA 6’s marketing activities.
Marketing Rights for GTA 6: Xbox Takes a Backseat
On the XNC podcast, a creator named MAGG claims that Sony’s acquisition of the marketing rights to GTA 6 will be finalized when the game’s second trailer is released. “Nothing, they’ll still get it… they just won’t get the marketing opportunity, that’s all,” MAGG said when asked by Colt how Xbox will be affected, adding that Xbox users will still be able to play the game, but PlayStation will have the marketing edge.
This will give Sony’s PlayStation platforms a huge advantage. GTA 6 is going to be one of the biggest releases in the gaming world and it’s estimated to be the biggest entertainment launch of all time. So, it’s not just a game; it’s going to create a huge market with music, movies and other entertainment sectors.
PlayStation 5 Pro and GTA 6: Could Come with 4K and 8K Performance
Sony’s marketing push focuses on the PS5 and the upcoming PS5 Pro. This souped-up console will allow gamers to play GTA 6 at peak performance. According to rumors, the PS5 Pro will be able to run GTA 6 at 4K 60FPS and even 8K 30FPS. This will allow the game to be experienced with the best graphics and performance, making PlayStation the crown jewel of this big launch.
“Can you imagine the biggest game of all time running at 4K 60FPS and even 8K 30FPS on the most powerful console of all time, the PS5 Pro? It would be incredible to see and something PC gamers would aspire to… but they can’t have it,” MAGG said, highlighting how the PS5 Pro will be a huge advantage.
Collaboration between Sony and Rockstar
Sony’s marketing move is a giant collaboration, tying Rockstar’s biggest game to PlayStation’s rising stars, the PS5 and PS5 Pro. The PS5 Pro is also rumored to be unveiled at the Tokyo Games Show in September. In other words, with this move, Sony is aiming to both boost console sales and outpace its competitors in the worldwide launch of GTA 6.
The effects of this strategy on Xbox are quite curious. Even if Microsoft can bring GTA 6 to its platform, it is a great loss that it will not be in the marketing showcase. Considering the success of the game when it is released, it is indisputable how much of an advantage it will be for Sony to lock up the marketing rights.
