Splinter Cell Remake Hit by New Breakup
Ubisoft’s long-awaited Splinter Cell Remake project has been shaken once again by a director change. A job posting briefly posted on the company’s official website revealed a search for a new director. This further fueled concerns that the remake, announced in 2021, is still struggling to find a clear path.
Splinter Cell Remake Back in the Spotlight with a Director Search
Developed by Ubisoft Toronto, Splinter Cell Remake has been quiet for some time. However, a recent posting for a “Game Director” position suggests the project is seeking a new direction. The posting stated that the new director will lead the team, introduce unique mechanics to the game, and determine the overall vision.
This marks the second major change following the departure of original director David Grivel from the project in 2022. Grivel left both the company and the project after over a decade at Ubisoft. Now, with his replacement also leaving, the remake has once again entered a period of uncertainty.
Fans of the series were concerned about this development, as the Splinter Cell Remake has been quiet for a long time. Fans of Sam Fisher, who haven’t seen a new game since 2013’s Blacklist, were enthusiastically greeted with the announcement of the 2021 remake. However, no concrete information about gameplay or a release date has been released in the intervening four years.
From Ubisoft’s perspective, the Splinter Cell brand continues to live on in various areas. The animated series Splinter Cell: Deathwatch, produced by John Wick creator Derek Kolstad and quickly renewed for a second season, has kept interest in the franchise alive.
However, the situation on the gaming front remains uncertain. The director change could delay the project even further. It’s now imperative for both gamers and fans of the series that Ubisoft breaks its silence and makes a clear statement about the Splinter Cell Remake.
